Description
Every family knows this scene.
Door slams.
Followed by either yelling, slamming other drawers or just…… silence.
Parents are left standing there, playing an emotional guessing game with the clock running.
Guess wrong too many times and what started as a bad moment turns into a blow up – “YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND ME!” when internally you go, “I’M NOT A MIND READER”
Hmm. Almost as if I’ve been there.
Here’s the thing though. Children do well if they can. Always. Aaaaand so do you.
We thought we’d make a little emotional regulation family hanger for the whole family so that we’re a little bit less mind-read-y, and more “I’ll just tell you what I need”.
A simple, low stakes way for your child to say “I need space” or “I need you closer” or “I don’t have words for this yet, but here’s a clue” before things tip over.
A simple low stakes way for you to communicate “PLEASE, I just need 5 minutes to myself” as part of modelling that you have sensory and regulation needs too. It’s okay to practice these skills along with them.
Orange side: Need a Moment

Begin the next household chapter where parents start to understand what’s going on and what they need, and children have a non-verbal way of communicating what they might need from their adults.
It all just begins with a little tick, that becomes a bridge.
