About

Distress behaviour can be rattling for all those involved - the person experiencing the meltdown, the person trying to attune to the needs of the distressed, and those who are around who may observe it. This workshop is all about utilising what we know about why meltdowns happen to be able to find the need behind it, attune to it and meet the person’s needs. It’s what we deserve in our most vulnerable moments, to be met with dignity and self-compassion, and something I wish for everyone to experience. This workshop includes access to a workbook with practical activities and strategies. The goal is to equip you with an essential resource to keep on hand for use over and over again as a guide. It centers the question “How do we meet this person’s needs?” which can us help to navigate through distress behaviours using a neuroaffirming and empowering approach. Thank you for being here and being part of a wave of those who look to meet the emotional needs of our most vulnerable, so we can either start to heal from trauma or better yet, not experience it at all.

Onwards and Upwards Psychology respectfully operates on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nations.

We pay our deep respects to Elders past and present. We acknowledge their unceded sovereignty and the strength and continuity of the world’s oldest living cultures. We commit to ongoing learning, accountability, and practice that centres the wellbeing, safety, and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. As one small part of that commitment, we offer bulk-billed psychological services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and remain dedicated to actions that support healing from intergenerational and ongoing trauma.

This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
