Let's socio-emotional communication cute.

Picture this: Your child goes into their room. Slams the door. You're supposed to work out what they want and go through this grand period of guessing. Except.... every bad guess means you get fewer chances before they blow up *at* you now.

Or even better, normalising taking a moment before the blow up. Parents model it. Children do it too. Happier households all round is the goal.

You see, we believe children do well if they can. That's actually just a universal truth that we're all trying our best to work it out. Parents do well if they can too.

So here's a little communication/emotional regulation tool for those in the family to use, that might just help everyone. Parents to know what's going on and what they need, and children to begin communicating what they might need from their adults.

It all just begins with a little blue-tac, and a tick.

Onwards and Upwards Psychology respectfully operates on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nations.

We pay our deep respects to Elders past and present. We acknowledge their unceded sovereignty and the strength and continuity of the world’s oldest living cultures. We commit to ongoing learning, accountability, and practice that centres the wellbeing, safety, and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. As one small part of that commitment, we offer bulk-billed psychological services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and remain dedicated to actions that support healing from intergenerational and ongoing trauma.

This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
